How we check directory listings
What a checked listing means
The Dear Us directory helps adults find information about independent support providers. Before a listing is published, an administrator checks the provider's identity, permission to appear, and the public details recorded on the listing. The date shown tells you when those checks were completed.
A directory check is not a clinical assessment, an endorsement of every service, or a guarantee of availability or results. Providers remain responsible for the care they offer.
What we check
We contact the provider through an independently checked channel to confirm their name, service, location or remote availability, public contact details, languages and any stated fees. We ask for permission to publish these details and record how that permission was given.
Where a listing claims a regulated professional title or licence, we check it with the relevant official register or issuing body. We do not call a credential verified on the strength of a website, social profile or certificate image alone. If a required check cannot be completed, the claim or listing stays unpublished.
Each listing states the scope of the checks completed. We keep consent records and internal verification notes private.
Keeping details current
We recheck listings at least every 90 days and when a material change or concern is reported. A listing whose required checks have expired is removed from public view until it is checked again. A provider can ask us to correct its details or withdraw permission to appear.
Details can change between checks. Before arranging a service, confirm its current fees, availability, location and suitability directly with the provider. You can also ask about qualifications, confidentiality and how concerns about care are handled.
Report a change or concern
Use Report a listing issue on the provider's page to flag an incorrect number, changed service, permission issue or other concern. Please include the listing link and a brief description. Avoid sending medical records or a detailed personal history.
An admin records the report and checks the affected information. We can hide a listing while a serious concern is assessed and restore it only when the required checks are complete. Sensitive safeguarding concerns follow our restricted safeguarding process. The reporting form is not an emergency channel; use the Safety page for urgent-help information.
To report a problem with a particular listing, use “Report a listing issue” on that provider's page. Serious safeguarding concerns are handled under our safeguarding policy.
